Event News : The Grand Social presents – “Social Connections”

“Social Connections” 

A series of 16 live performances, recorded and broadcast on the internet.

Social Connections is a series of 16 recorded live performances by a wonderful multi genre collection of Irish based artists. The Grand Social is delighted to open it’s doors with this fresh mixture of showcases by some of Ireland’s most iconic artists and a chance to explore the new breed of songwriters who are taking the scene by storm. The Grand Social has teamed up with collectives, booking agents, other venues and a multiple of friends to create Social Connections.

Each performance will be accompanied by the work of Douglas O’Connor, a Dublin based photojournalist, who has spent a life time walking the streets of Dublin, camera in hand. Since the lockdowns began in 2020 he has continued to document the city in all of it’s nakedness, shy of people. Walk the quiet streets of Dublin through the eyes of O’Connor.

For The Girl are an indie pop rock sextet from Nottingham.With a number of high profile gigs and UK supporting tours under their belts, this is a band that’s clearly going places, helped by a style and sound all of their own. Their stage presence is like no other irrespective of where they play, from small and intimate venues, to the electric crowds of the UK’s O2 Academies

For The Girl have a tight, shredding and utterly exhilarating sound. Exuding deft melodic prowess and indie pop energy the band create dynamic earworms backed by driving rhythms and powerful emotive vocals. For The Girl have a bright future ahead of them – really looking forward to this takeover.

Hailing from Tipperary, Kill ‘Em Charlie are a five piece indie rock outfit. Newly re-imagined and taking their sound to blistering new heights, the band have recently released their new EP, ‘I Hope This Works for You (‘Cause it Does for Me)’.

 Kill ‘Em Charlie have a tight, melodious sound which radiates slick guitar lines and infectious hooks. Showcasing clever songwriting and deft musicianship the five piece blend sweet melodies with blistering indie superbly to create a sound that is refined and exhilarating.  This takeover is sure to be a blast.

Event News : Rachel Grace Takeover

Rachel Grace is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has been creating music from a very young age. At 13, she released her debut album and now at 18, she has just recently won the Four Star Pizza, Star Nation competition. Along the way she has also supported established Irish musicians such as Wallis Bird, Brian Deady, Don Mescal and Paddy Casey. She has also played a number of festivals including Vantastival & Electric Picnic.

Grace is a diverse and engaging performer who blends genres to suit her wonderful emotive style. Her mesmerising vocals showcase a warmth and maturity beyond her years, as do the passionate and well crafted tunes she writes. Grace stops time when she sings and her soulful songs and dreamy melodies are a joy to listen to.

Soda Blonde ‘Love Me World’ Live Performance film

Soda Blonde have released their live performance film ‘Love Me World’ on YouTube. This is not just a live performance but an epic, cinematic, performance film, the band wanted to raise the bar when it comes to live streaming and created a true masterpiece. Fresh off the back of their 2nd EP release, being named as one of Ireland’s top music acts in The Irish Times, support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Wales, BBC Radio Ulster, RTE 1, Today FM and 2FM, and with an album on the way, Soda Blonde are one of the fastest rising stars in the Irish music scene. 

This performance is a real treat with the band providing both a unique and mesmerising visual as well as a standout performance containing a mix of the bands released and unreleased songs. 

About the film the band say…. 

“For the launch of ‘Love Me World’ we wanted to create a livestream like no other. To do so we took inspiration from Lila Avilés’ ‘The Chambermaid’ and Jonathon Demme’s iconic ‘Stop Making Sense’. In a playful nod to the sterilised times we live in, the show opens with Faye dressed as a hotel cleaning lady. On her hands and knees she sanitises her way across a festooned catwalk to a heightened new world of her imagination. ‘Love Me World’ is about the idea of bending to fit the zeitgeist in the pursuit of acceptance and love. With that in mind we wanted our performance to evolve with each song and eventually lead to a ‘Cinderella’ moment. A huge thank you to Kelly Campbell, Daniel Katz, Eugenia Genucci, David Crean and Ryan Hargadon – without whom none of this would have been possible! – Faye, Adam, Donagh, Dylan“

Indie Buddie Session: Ria Rua

Ria Rua recorded a live session for Indie Buddie earlier this week and it’s a real treat. Ria Rua is a female artist and producer from Cavan. She began her musical life as a drummer – drumming professionally in Ireland and abroad – before deciding to shift her focus to songwriting, singing and production.

Ria Rua’s sound is edgy, compelling and executed with mesmerising artistic flair. Her luring songs blend sharp beats with dark intoxicating electronics to create an intriguing and tantalizing listening experience.

Ria went all out for her performance, utilising her deft technical wizardry, musical and visual prowess to provide us with an outstanding, one of a kind, and exciting performance.

Hailing from Co. Kildare with a sound that hovers close to the baroque pop and tender folk-rock of Roy Orbison and Glen Campbell, John Hynes songs are a storyboard for hopeless romantics and hopeless romances. His songwriting explores the grey areas of life and love, where the good and bad reside uncomfortably side-by-side. John’s previous singles reached No.1 on the RTE Radio 1 airplay chart and received plays on Today FM, Lyric FM, 4FM, Radio Nova, and a host of regionals.

John Hynes has a soothing warm voice. His poetic, moving lyrics and sweet melodies make for a wonderful listening experience. There is passion and emotion oozing from each of his catchy songs. His tender vocals and heartwarming rich melodies are irresistible. This live stream is going to be sublime.

RACHEL is a singer-songwriter from Mayo whose musical journey started at the young age of twelve writing original music while learning the guitar and banjo. She has performed, and competed in RTÉ’s televised ‘All-Ireland Talent Show’ and reached the final of the local talent competition. In 2019, she released her first single ‘Down Low’ which reached the number one spot in Ireland’s iTunes Charts.

RACHEL has a diverse and rich sound. She blends pop with some country tones and dark electronics to create a warm and rich soundscape for the listener to indulge in. Her unique rasped vocals surge emotion and subtle power into her catchy melodically lush tracks. RACHEL is an artist to keep an eye on.

From the circus, to a string of singles, 27 year old Dubliner, Nathan Mac is an exciting and innovative artist who has recently released his second single ‘Carolina’.‘Carolina’ is the latest link in the chain of the ‘Start of Something Blue’ project. As the second major release, the bar has been set by the success of his first single ‘Better Off Without You’. This song hit 70,000 streams on Spotify in the first two months alone and has received acclaim internationally from the likes of  ‘Buzz music LA’, and ‘The Music Nerd’.

Nathan Mac’s songs are exceptionally rich, melodious and tantalizing to the senses. His passionate songwriting showcases lyrical depth well beyond his years while his velvety vocals and sublime prowess on keys makes him a remarkable artist well worth checking out.
