Finnian ‘Fly’

After Three extremely successful single launches, Finnian has released his new single ‘Fly’ taken off his debut album ‘Under The Influence’ which will be released on July 24th. Growing up in Dundalk, Ireland, Finnian has carefully nurtured his songwriting to the point where he is now being lauded by his peers as one of the most exciting talents in the country.

Saturated in bluesy swag and jazz elements ‘Fly’ is a bright number steeped in the sleek and engaging songwriting of Finnian. The song is anchored by the jazz piano refrains while elements of blues rock and retro soul adorn the track in lush tones. With banjo twangs between a foot moving rhythm, jaunty organ and warm guitar the track has a strutting sass all of its own. Finnian’s clever turn of phrase and passionate songwriting are at the forefront of his powerful, intricate musicianship. This is best shown when the listener admires the song as a whole – the instrumental backdrop flourishes behind Finnian’s rasped vocals giving the track a fluctuant and kinetic texture that is vibrant and uplifting without becoming overpowering. His beginnings as a folk based songwriter have now truly evolved and this song is a fine display of Finnian mastering his craft.

Arthur Valentine ‘2018’

Arthur Valentine has released his new single ‘2018’. Arthur Valentine is the eclectic pop project of Cork based singer/songwriter, producer and co-founder of the Hausu collective, Luke Aston. Employing help from his Hausu collaborators ‘2018’ was recorded over an 18 month period in both homemade, DIY and professional studios.

‘2018’ is a lush melodic number that exudes Arthur Valentine’s perky passionate sound. With warm guitar strides and jingles the track fluidly flows into the ears as the velvety vocals pour soft soul hues on the melty peppy melody. Triumphant brass elements add a glorious vibrant, rich quality to the track. The quirky lyrics and easy listening musicianship with tight and crisp production make this track instantly likeable and cosy. The song travels at a steady pace as Arthur Valentine injects a rich variety of instruments with jazzy elements and electronic textures up to the jubilant crescendo. The song slowly pans out stripping away all the rich instrumentation and vibrant bustle to soft crooned vocals with only delicate strums on guitar to accompany it, creating lonely solitary end to the track. ‘2018’ is a magnificent display from Arthur Valentine

The Lemon Twigs ‘These Words’

The Lemon Twigs are brothers Brian (19 years old) and Michael (17) D’Addario. The duo present us with their unique style of baroque rock through their new single ‘These Words’. On my first listen of this track ill admit i was dumbfounded, first thoughts were “wow how do i describe this” followed by “I need to hear more”. The Lemon Twigs blend mystical music with blissful melodic pop all while adding sprinkles of jazz and a snazzy solo on keys. This track is ridiculously catchy with a velvety slick ear worm chorus and rich lush uplifting harmony. The soft tender vocals for the verse are delicate and creamy and have a hazy daydream effect.  ‘These Words’ will transport you to a skewed 1960s era of euphoric melodies with a 21st century twist. This track is tightly bound together with such precision and skill that shows fantastic musicianship from the these young brothers. The Lemon Twigs’ debut album ‘Do Hollywood’ will be released October 14 and boy it looks promising.
