Kill ‘Em Charlie ‘Local High Roller’

Irish Five-piece indie rock band, Kill ‘Em Charlie have released their new single ‘Local High Roller’. The band consists of Eoghan McGuigan (Vocals/Guitar), Alex Sheehan (Backing vocals, Guitar), Patrick Kirwan (Guitar), George Broadbank (backing vocals, Guitar) and Damon Walsh (Drums). Since forming, the band have played shows in Cyprus Avenue in Cork, Dublin’s Whelans and Valley of Arts Festival in Tipperary.

‘Local High Roller’ is a fun energetic track that showcases Kill ‘Em Charlie’s youthful indie sound. The song steamrolls in on frantic guitar riffs, rampant bass lines and powerful drumming to create a frenzied wall of sound that is sure to be epic live. With a catchy melody, shredding guitar outbursts and hyper instrumentation ‘Local High Roller’ is an impressive banger. This band are developing their sound superbly as they blend their impressive musicianship with oodles of swagger and rock n roll panache.

On the background of the song, the band state: “The track came about one evening while we were practising. Eoghan started playing the main guitar line and everyone joined in what they felt was right for the song. We knew from the get-go that it would be an energetic song so we tried to stick to that vibe. By the end of practice, we had the first draft of the music for the song which has not changed much since. Eoghan then went away and wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies, getting inspiration from our own experiences as we mentioned above. Once the lyrics were done it was just a case of melding both together and the outcome was the song ‘Local High Roller’ as you hear it now.”

“The song was recorded at Claycastle, Youghal by producer Triss. It was our first time recording in this studio and Triss’ energy matched us incredibly well and he knew exactly what our vision for the song/EP was. Our old band member, Gavin Murray, was the mixing maestro for this song and EP. We previously worked with Gavin on our previous single ‘Hazey’ and, as Gavin used to be a former member, he really understands how we wanted the songs to sound. We could not be happier with the result of both the recording and mixing. Finally, the songs were mastered by Fergal Davis who has mastered most of our previous material so we also have a good trusting relationship with him.”

Kill ‘Em Charlie ‘I Hope This Works for You (‘Cause it Does for Me)’ EP

Hailing from Tipperary, Kill ‘Em Charlie are a five piece indie rock outfit. Newly re-imagined and taking their sound to blistering new heights, they have released their new EP, ‘I Hope This Works for You (‘Cause it Does for Me)’. Showcasing deft hooks, swaggering musicianship and some seriously slick riffage the EP is an impressive display of indie rock.

The band pivot their slick guitar lines around a punchy drum foundation while elastic wriggles on bass create a dark luring undertone in ‘Dark Maneuvers’ and ‘I’m Not Alone’. The tracks explode with heavy jagged moments of epic alternative rock proportions as Kill ‘Em Charlie build tension through gritty riffs, sweet backing vocal coos and pulverising rhythms which provide a satisfying mosh worthy listening experience.

The band’s clean, catchy and expressive melodies surge adrenaline and panache throughout providing a light and sometimes dreamy release from the crashing wall of sound. However it’s ‘One Thing To Say’ which displays the band’s tight, refined instrumental, and melodic prowess. Showcasing light jangly guitar, jazzy keys and bouncy beats teamed with tropical tones and glimmers of The Strokes between some pretty slick arrangements, the track is a special moment on the EP. It’s dangerously catchy, well crafted and radio ready. The vocals are strong, smooth and blend perfectly with the bands scorching sound.

The five piece keep the EP traveling at high intensity and don’t allow any track to dampen the EP’s stride. Even the glum titled ‘This Is A Proper Quarter Life Crisis’ blazes with lively indie rock, enriched with rampant bass lines, razor sharp guitar lacerations and pulverizing drums – paving the way for the dynamic ’Victoria Avenue’ . Each song on the EP warrants repeat listens and the band use the blazing track ‘I’m Not Alone’ to close the EP, leaving you craving to hear more.

‘I Hope This Works for You (‘Cause it Does for Me)’ is a solid debut EP from Kill ‘Em Charlie. The five piece are showing strong musical growth as they experiment and hone in on their sound. Looking forward to hearing more from this band.

Kill ‘Em Charlie ‘Better Than Never, It’s Late’ EP

Irish band Kill ‘Em Charlie have released their 2-track EP titled ‘Better Than Never, It’s Late’. The band, comprised of members Eoghan on vocals, Alex on guitar, Patrick on guitar, George on bass and Gavin on drums are a  5-piece from Tipperary, but currently play mostly in Cork and Limerick. The EP was recorded and produced by drummer, Gavin, in his bedroom.

‘Better Than Never, It’s Late’ is a magnetic two track EP filled with sweet melodic goodness wrapped in a punchy indie array of sleekness. ‘Out of the Blue’ is the first offering. Snappy and buoyant this track hops along on jagged striking guitars and punchy drums before building into an energetic crashing backdrop for the chorus. Smooth vocals coo and vibrantly rebound off the infectious melody while a rooted bass adds a darkly hued foundation to this catchy number. ‘For Old Times’ Sake’ is the more instrumentally rugged of the two tracks as rough guitars serrate through the rich vigorous rhythm making  for a compelling danceable foundation. The guitars glimmer with impressive slivers of swagger soaked slickness as they whine and soar over the breezy melody adding a bitter sweet lamenting tone to the track which is just sublime. These guys blend the jagged and edgy indie with ethereal and delicate seamlessly to create a radio friendly tune that has something for everyone. The melodies in both these tracks are delicious and sing along ready as the vocal delivery packs in enough passion and vibrancy to make every note lovable. Their crafting and layering of each track is tight and they pack in enough epic and anthemic moments to have a live audience going wild. There is something special here for sure. For a lot of bands lately  live shows are where they excel and I’m sure Kill ‘Em Charlie knock the live shows out of the park. There is an energy that feels a little muted in the recording that i can imagine makes the live shows amazing. Keep an eye out for these guys.
