Lana Del Rey ‘Venice Bitch’

Following on from last week’s release of ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’, Lana Del Rey has now released another new track ‘Venice Bitch’. The track which is expected to appear on her next album, ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ premiered as World Record on Apple Music’s Beats 1 with Zane Lowe” yesterday and is available to stream and download now. ‘Venice Bitch’ is a 10-minute span of dreamy floaty ballad -esque tones wrapped in a psychedelic prismatic  blanket. Del Rey drapes her sultry vocals over a tender first half of the track as subtle guitars twinkle about swoony strings while a sweet calming melody caresses your ears gently and delicately seeping into your mind. Del Rey’s vocals disarm and subdue with her honeyed tone lulling and cooing gracefully. This sublimely tranquilizing gem is easy on the ears as it subtly builds becoming a little more obscure with the psychedelic tones steering the track into a kaleidoscopic daze. Just as you are melting into its soothing moody hazy vibe the track slides into a falling hallucinogenic bottomless dream of weaving almost dizzying soundscapes and distorted lingering guitar fuzz while Del Rey laments above this woozy backdrop. It’s a gripping unique number from Lana Del Rey.

Arcade Hearts ‘Bleach’

Arcade Hearts have released their new single single ‘Bleach’, the second to be taken from their debut self-titled EP out this Friday 21st September on Republic of Music. After releasing their debut single in late 2017 the band have not stopped, taking the hard graft attitude of their day jobs into the music and applying a hunger only a few bands possess to make this work. This has led them to earn a loyal following and the booking of their largest headline show to date at Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms. The band have gathered support from Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing, Spotify and Born Music alongside supporting some of the biggest new bands including Sports Team, Orchards, Wild Front, Jerry Williams, Swimming Girls and Fickle Friends.

‘Bleach’ is a sweet sugarplum swirl of 80’s fused indie pop that gets your heart racing with each delicious tender moment. Lush synths shimmer around the rich rhythmic ripples while the  delicate melody drips and seeps like honey over this glorious tuneful soundscape. The velvety vocals surge with passion while zesty guitars inject vibrant glimmers of scintillation throughout. These guys write heart moving tunes wrapped in romance and tight angel delight doused instrumentation with a nice little underline sting to keep the edgy indie element. With a sound that evokes quivering emotion delicately and blissfully these guys are ones to keep an eye on.

Describing the single frontman Dan Surridge-Smith said: “Bleach is trying to tell a story of acute late night romance and the degradation of a mental-well being in a social age. Not in a pretentious way, just a blend or being delicate and obvious with the subject”

Worth A Listen

Our Worth A Listen Track This Week Comes From Johnny Kills

Following  on from the  success of ‘’Who’s  Counting?͛, their first  release via Killing Moon, Johnny  Kills emerge for the second time  in 2018 with their new tune ‘Seems’.  Earning champions including BBC Introducing,  The Line of Best Fit, DORK, Indie Shuffle and  The Metro plus dozens more tastemaker radio stations  and blogs with their flair for delivering scuzzy pop  off-cuts, the trio are made up of Tim, biological brother  Lewis Lloyd-Kinnings and spiritual brother Cameron Gipp. Aiding them  in bringing their tracks to an acceptable auditory standard is Leeds  based producer and Forever Cult bassist Alex Greaves (TRASH, PLAZA, Seeing Hands)  on production and mixing duties, with Pete Maher (Pixies, Lana Del Rey, Scissor Sisters)  on mastering.

‘Seems’ is a glam rock dash of bedazzlement propelled into a fuzz fueled  garage-rock setting to create a whirlpool of blistering bliss. A pounding relentless bass line forces its punk-esque ego  through the glittery bravado with relentless ground shaking ferocity while the falsetto vocals subdue this pounding with its flamboyant sleekness. This track weaves a wiggly wonky thread through the instrumental battery to make for a scuzzy quirky listening experience filled with angst and vigor.

Skipper ‘North’ EP

Infrared image of evening light falling on Icelandic mountain range

Folk rock artist Skipper has released his new EP ‘North’. Skipper released his latest Folk Rock EP, North, back in March and is ready to share it to new listeners once again. For Skipper, this record is his first self produced project, having worked on it all by himself. The vocals and the majority of the instrumentals are all his own work that he recorded in ‘Anchor Point’ in Melbourne, Australia.  With the help of contributors such as mixer, Brian McTear, who has worked with Sharon Van Etten and War on Drugs drummer Patrick Berkery, Skipper puts a spin on classic folk music.

‘North’ is a collection of gripping emotionally charged tracks that take you on a breezy journey of discovery. Written by Skipper about the complexity of life itself each track highlights a different aspect of life. ‘Past The Night’ speaks about death, following personal processes of letting go of true love. Brimming with wispy haunting soundscapes and deep eerie vocals this track builds from mournfully chilling to a crashing crescendo of shrilling guitars with wail and screech over punchy drums. The melodies in this EP are rich and full of meaningful heart gripping moments that make each track hit home with the listener. ‘Take What’s Yours’  is Skipper’s take on an ode to our consumer culture. Warm jingly guitar weaves its slinky way between a steady buoyant beat and rich percussion as Skippers vocals coo, soothe and almost drone between this lush exotic backdrop. ‘Northern Light’ is full of twinkling mystery. Delicate guitars glisten between a throbbing beat while echoed vocals haunt over the pulsing backdrop as bells chime an ominous jingle throughout. The sweet angelic ‘Hey There’ closes the EP. Soft guitar jingles teamed with lush harmonies add an ethereal lift to this gentle number ending the EP with soft chimes and celestial tones of hope. A charming tender way to close an EP which travels through a roller-coaster of emotions in the most soothing tranquilising manner.
