SPINN ‘Notice Me’

Liverpool dream-pop janglers SPINN have returned with their new single, ‘Notice Me’. Jonny (Lead Vocals/ Rhythm Guitar), Andy (Lead guitar/ Synthesizer), Sean (Bass/ Backing Vocals) and George (Drums/ Backing Vocals) have supported Will Joseph Cook, TRASH, and had a nifty little spot at FestEvol. Since the release of their last single, ‘Home’, SPINN have been admired for their dreamy sounds and youthful exuberance. The four lads, who met at school, have been shown a lot of love online, garnering 50K (and still climbing) streams on Spotify, whilst also being booked for Kendal Calling, and selling out their first headline show in their hometown, Liverpool.
‘Notice Me’ is a glucose filled syrupy shot of sweet indie pop. Filled with dreamy hazy vibes and infectious zesty hooks. Jangly guitar adds a refreshing sting and sunny warmth to this delightful track as it oozes summer sunshine vibes. Laid back day-dreamy vocals soothe with sombre longing tones while peppy beats and shimmering synths keep the track bouncing along with vibrant animation. Well layered and blissful ‘Notice Me’ is an honest guilt free slice of luscious indie pop.
The track was first made to gain some radio play from SPINN’s local BBC Introducing host, Dave Monks. The idea was to write a song about wanting the attention of Monks. Of the track, singer Jonathon Quinn said: “Notice Me started out as a way to get some radio play. We used to say it was a homage to BBC Radio Merseyside because when we wrote it we couldn’t get any radio play, and wanted to be noticed by them. The lyrics are a bit more meaningful, it’s essentially us trying to portray the concept of Hero Worship in a pop song. That’s why we’ve got a load of our gorgeous lovely heroes on the artwork.”

Circus Wolves ‘Tourist’

Manchester five-piece Circus Wolves have released their new single ‘Tourist’. The band have developed a unique sound combining frenetic guitars with melancholic melodies. Band members Guy Aled Wynn Davies, Jim Ker,Jack Taylor, Ben Lawton and Cameron Tetlow wear their Mancunian influences heavily on their sleeves and share a love for northern soul and 60s rock n roll.
‘Tourist’ is a snappy high powered infectious track. Sharp shredding guitars pierce through the track with kinetic flames of fire while a flexible spring on bass bounces along behind lifting the track. Punchy drums pound throughout while ghostly backing vocals create an eerie spine chilling atmosphere. Stand out powerful vocals add a strong almost theatrically aggressive yet swagger induced quality and when that falsetto kicks in, oh my it’s goosebump inducing. These guys have given us a raw edgy track that exudes rock n roll panache with a Talking Heads- esque element. It’s a feverish blast of blistering alternative rock that marks these guys as ones to watch. Absolutely brilliant.

Glassmaps ‘Summer Rain’

Glassmaps is the solo project of Joel Stein, lead guitarist in the much-loved Howling Bells. After four successful albums with the band, the UK-based Australian has brought his worldwide touring and recording experience to this exciting new endeavour. ‘Summer Rain’ is the first release from Glassmaps’ upcoming ‘Strangely Addicted’ LP which is to be released on Lost In The Manor Records later in the year. The LP was honed in Las Vegas, at the home studio of The Killers’ bassist Mark Stoermer, where Joel was staying while recording with Howling Bells.
‘Summer Rain’ is a swoony crooning blues tinted track brewed and entangled in hazy psychedelia. Driven by a blues rock stomp this track exudes and bleeds lazy laid back swagger. Dragging blurry delusions with sunny psych harmonics it’s a weary search for a resolution for ones own problems. The sharp twanging guitar freshens up the lethargic dreamy staggering soundscape. Stein’s raspy swooping vocals add a drowsy narcotic effect to this hypnotic sweltering track. Stuffy and muggy this track evokes images of humid days it almost suffocates you in its delusional trip. Catchy and hypnotic ‘Summer Rain’ is almost soothing and sedating while holding an air of seduction and confusion.

Aaron Espe ‘Heidi’

Raised in small-town northern Minnesota, singer-songwriter Aaron Espe got his start by opening for the folk duo Storyhill in Minneapolis before dropping out of college to tour on his own. His career has taken him across the U.S. and overseas, playing in coffee shops, bars, churches, and even the occasional yoga studio. He has released five solo albums, a Christmas EP, and several singles. Nettwerk Records released the EP Through Frozen Forests in 2012, which peaked at #7 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. In October of 2015, his song “Beyond the Sun” was recorded by the Nashville Cast (feat. Lennon Stella) and aired on ABC. Among other coveted placements, Espe’s recordings have been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, The Fosters, and the documentary film Where the Yellowstone Goes, as well as commercials by Sainsbury’s, Volkswagen and Toys “R” Us. A resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Espe often performs songwriter rounds at local venues The Basement and Bluebird Café. He has released his new single ‘Heidi’ taken from his upcoming LP ‘Passages’ which is out September 8th via Nettwerk.
‘Heidi’ is a sweet honest wholesome track richly satisfying but so tender and beautiful. Gentle elegant acoustic guitar caresses Espe’s lush delicate vocals creating a sublime dreamy atmosphere that oozes rose petal sweet scented romance. Instantly catchy this hum along worthy tune is blissfully lovable and comforting. Simple and passionate, it’s a treasure that will melt any heart. This song is pure and true unadulterated romance, clean and crisp with warm raspy tints it’s simply heavenly. So beautiful and touching it stops time while you are listening to it.
When asked about the track Aaron Espe said
“Heidi is my wife. One of the first times we talked in depth was beside a campfire in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at a KOA campground. This song is about that time, more than 10 years ago now. I was so damn in love. It wasn’t requited for a while, but as you can see, things worked out. Besides literally being a tribute to that memory, I suppose this song is about the moment you know you’ve already chosen somebody, but they have to choose you back. You have no idea if that’ll ever happen. It’s way out of your control. But the weird thing is, even though your life is basically in someone else’s hands, you feel so good.”
