The Brazen

Genre: Indie rock

Bio: Leeds-based indie rockers The Brazen have released their anthemic new single ‘Delusion’. The new single follows sold-out shows all over the UK and media support from BBC Introducing, Fred Perry Subculture & more than 25 regional stations for their 2016 debut album Laser Lips. Since forming in early 2015, the five-piece have been tearing up venues around the UK and picking up fans at every gig. United by shared influences & musical cornerstones The Stone Roses, Queen & U2, their combination of classic rock sounds and Britpop melodies has also gained national and regional radio airplay and glowing online press. The boys’ debut album Laser Lips was recorded with producer Ed Heaton (Jon Gomm, Fold, NARCS) and channelled the glory days of 90’s indie into a vibrant set of pop rock tunes.

Track: Delusion

Why we Like It: Its smooth floaty indie, tender and laced in melancholy tones while still holding enough grit and edge to add texture to the track. The addition of orchestral string parts from Kieran O’Malley adds a layer of gravitas and epic melancholy to their fist-in-the-air chorus. Its subtly dramatic and elegant with a grandeur that sways and glides like a feather in the air.
The Brazen will be celebrating the release of the new single with the following live dates –
14th April – AATMA, Manchester
5th May – O2 Academy, Birmingham
13th May – Verve Bar, Leeds

Mowbeck ‘The Basement’

Nottingham rock outfit Mowbeck are back with their newest single ‘The Basement’ which follows their debut EP ‘Talkabout’. After storming sets at Reading & Leeds festival last year on BBC Introducing Stages with sold out headline shows of their own, the band headed back into the studio at the start of the year working on new material. Odd Couple ‘Am I Evil’

Our favourite new garage-rock duo Tammo Dehn and Jascha Kreft from Odd Couple have released their new single Am I Evil’. This follows their previous banger ‘Gone Solid’ which we featured on Indie Buddie last month. Both tracks feature on their debut album ‘Flügge’ which is due for release later this month.

‘Am I Evil’ is a fatal blast of ruthlessly sleek infectious garage rock that effortlessly drifts from slinky and groovy to head banging mania. Mind blowing and blissfully obscure this duo know what they are doing as they present us with a septic jaunt back to a time when things weren’t so mercilessly sanitised and lobotomised. Dirty gritty riffs forcefully hook you into their villainous prowl while Odd Couple question their unhealthiest and most intrusive thoughts. Mighty pulverising drums bring the track to that powerful brawny punch and mosh worthy frenzy. With western cowboy-like guitar interjections and incredibly slick guitar licks, Odd Couple gives you mind numbing thrilling opaque fierceness that holds a slithery retro sleekness. It’s sultry silky and packs a mighty punch all while having a retro tint and brutish swagger. These guys are ones to watch.

The VEX ‘Living In The’

Rock band The VEX have released their new single ‘Living In The’. The VEX came into being while on tour in Moscow with a previous band, the schisms in the group were made apparent by an offer of management from one Adam Ant. The faction that opposed the deal broke away to form The VEX, playing their debut gig at Moscow’s BlastFest, where the only thing that wasn’t ice-cold was, typically, the band’s beer rider. Josh (guitar/vox), Jacko (guitar/vox), Andrew (bass) and Joshua (drums) soon honed a sound inspired by the classic roots and rock of both Kingston, Jamaica, and London, England. Dealing in dirty guitars and big beats, played with passion and precision, the quartet’s heavy rocksteady sonics became a draw on both sides of the Thames, their ferocious shows earning them a rep as one of the best live bands on the circuit. The new single ‘Living In The’ is the lead track from the bands eponymous self titled third EP set for release April 21st.
‘Living In The’ is a boisterous rough and tumble punch of mighty rock smothered with strut worthy swagger and flamboyance. Right from the start The VEX blast us with their blend of ska-punk. Razor sharp jagged guitar pierces through the track while the elastic stretchy bass gives the track a wobbly flexibility that will have hips moving and grooving in no time. The track leads to a shredding stinging guitar solo that is thrilling and wild. The robust kick drum pounds with a mighty brawn while it prances with panache and slick attitude. Insanely catchy this mighty track steam rolls in with glam rock charisma and charm while slapping you in the face with their riotous attitude. The VEX hit hard and they cut deep.
When asked about the track The VEX frontman Jacko explains:
“Inspired by the wonderful words of English philosopher Alan Watts, who has become a huge influence of mine, ‘Living In The’ is about existing in an eternal NOW. It’s all there ever has been and all there ever will be. With today’s mobile phone culture, it sadly seems more important to photograph or record an event than to be totally present and take it all in. As the song’s title suggests, we play and feel the NOW.”

Harrison Rimmer ‘Veins’ Video Premier

Hailing from Blackpool, Harrison Rimmer has released his new video for the single ‘Veins’. His gruff, passionate sounds have resonated with many over the years and the passionate emotional hard hitting single ‘Veins’ follows this legacy. The track deals with personal themes and ideas that many can relate too, whatever their career, including depression and battling against self-doubt. This anthem-like track is coated in fiery gritty rock and motivating tones. Mighty punchy drums and blistering razor sharp guitar add electrifying energy and sizzling heat to this dynamic track. Soothing raspy vocals cool the track and add grit and texture.

The video displays Rimmer singing next to a frustrated artist while he tries to create his masterpiece growing increasingly frustrated with his attempts to achieve his desired painting. As he tears sheet after sheet of paper off he turns to Rimmer to shout about his dissatisfaction. Finally the artist looses it and begins to punch his canvas and throw it around in anger.

When asked about the track Rimmer said

“Following the release of my third EP, ‘C’ and the tour that followed, I found myself in a place I haven’t been before; the tour was so much fun and a great experience but I was burnt out from playing so many shows in a year and among other things going on I ended up getting writer’s block. It was my first battle with it and it nearly drove me to quit music because it wasn’t fun anymore.I felt that what I was doing with my music was hurting people I really loved and cared about. I kept battling through it and I ended up with this song, This song is for anyone who feels trapped, feels like they can’t do anything or keep getting put down.”

Fighting Caravans ‘It’s A Nice Ride (To Be Fair)’

Leeds alternative rock band Fighting Caravans have released their new single ‘It’s A Nice Ride (To Be Fair)’ by cult label, Clue Records. After sets at Leeds and Reading Festival in 2016, band members Daniel Clark (Lead Vocals), Roff James (Guitar), Cinnamon Lees (Bass), Ali Fletcher (Guitar) and Joshua Hagzenberg (Drums) have gained a reputation as an explosive live band which is exemplified by the accompanying music video made up of clips from their most recent headline tour of Europe in October. The band have recently completed a stint recording at the renowned, The Nave, and plans are in place for an even bigger 2017 having already announced appearances at a number of Festivals, including Outlines and Blue Dot.
‘It’s A Nice Ride (To Be Fair)’ is a venomous attack cloaked in smooth eerie tones and a slick glossy flow. This psychedelic acid trip wails with shrilling distorted guitar and a bitter fierce lyrical sting. Soft lush backing vocals add a ghostly haunting quality while that razor sharp  guitar shines with spine chilling flare and animation right into the kick ass riveting solo. The stirring malleable bass is shiver inducing-ly sinister. The track sweeps with their melodic yet vicious creepy territory with nods towards Nick Cave, The Walker Brothers and The Last Shadow Puppets. The track is lush and sublimely layered with dark tones and grippingly intense instrumentation. A chilling and thrilling must listen from Fighting Caravans. Watch out for theses guys.

Worth A Listen

Our Worth A Listen Track This Week Comes From Get Inuit

Kent four piece Get Inuit released their new single ‘Barbiturates’ earlier this year. Band members Jamie, Ollie, James and Rob have been fine-tuning their fuzzed-out live show and have supported the likes of VANT, Spring King, The Magic Gang, PUP, Slaves and DZ Deathrays.
‘Barbiturates’ is dynamite of insanely infectious fuzzed up jagged guitar rock, coated with sublime melodic bubbliness. This snappy tense explosive track is bursting with bloodcurdling thrilling screams and frenzy drenched episodes, coupled with razor-sharp shrilling guitar, punchy drums and driving roll on bass. This is almost theatrically contrasted with brief silences and afflicted whispers creating a breathtaking manic conflict. One minute Get Inuit are screaming at you with pulling your hair out frenzy the next calming with gentle eerie whispers and coos. All hysteria and mania aside this dynamic four piece pull out some glorious sweet Vampire Weekend-esque melodies that create a blissful ear-worm effect surrounded by ferocious guitars and robust drums. The vocals on this track are amazing with such height, powerful range and control that will have you in awe. The track finishes delicately with a trembling almost spoken vocal like tidying yourself up after a psychotic enraged episode, all is normal again. These guys are too good.
