Someya ‘Da da da da’

Someya is set to release her new single ‘Da da da da’ on October 2nd. Also known as ‘The Sassy Song’, Someya’s ‘Da da da da’ is a brand new track fresh off her upcoming EP ‘Bottle Full of Dreams’. Depicting a brutally honest moment of being tired of someone, Someya brings forward the confidence in acknowledging that really, ‘it’s not me, it’s you’. Someya brought in Nova Noir Productions to work on the song as well as Flipsyde’s guitarist Dave Lopez.Constantly writing and expanding her artistry, Someya grew up in California and became involved with music from an early age. Having several summer programme’s at Berklee College of Music under her belt, a debut EP release at age 16, a UK tour, and after spending the past three years pursuing her music career, Someya is proving to be quite the dedicated pop artist.

‘Da da da da’ is a dark noir rock/pop track as Someya spreads a haunting melody over chilling guitars and ominous soundscapes to create an eerie lulling tune. A melancholic melody soothes while Someya coos with a mysterious undertone. The track travels at a steady, creeping pace as it builds to its intense crescendo. With a shredding guitar solo breaking the song’s hazy state, ‘Da da da da’ is an intriguing well crafted single from Someya.

Norwegian singer Dagny has just released the new video for her latest single “It’s Only A Heartbreak” alongside announcing an Irish headline show at The Academy, Dublin on the 10 April 2021. Her long-awaited debut album Strangers / Lovers is also out this Friday the 2nd October 2020 via Little Daggers Records.

‘It’s Only A Heartbreak’ is a catchy pop gem. Dagny uses relatable themes and shimmering musicianship to create an upbeat bittersweet post breakup anthem. In the video Dagny is supported by two women who encourage the singer not to text or think about her ex. With shots in a beautiful hotel and its grounds, Dagny shows off her ability to dance with fun choreography which includes a number of fancy moves geared towards stopping Dagny from picking up the phone and reconnecting with her ex.

Speaking on the new single release, Dagny commented: “It’s Only A Heartbreak is actually partly inspired by the classic movie “Casablanca” from 1942, and Humphrey Bogart’s famous quote: “Here’s looking at you, kid”. Like the movie, the song is about knowing that you will never get someone back, but you can secretly still look at, and admire, that certain someone. The song carries a nonchalant expression, but the undertone makes it pretty obvious that you’re not over that person yet.”

Dunluvly ‘Too Late’

Dublin-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Dunluvly has released his new single, ‘Too Late’ today. The single is the first release off of his upcoming EP, ‘Plethora’. Playing all the instruments on the track, the song was written, recorded, and produced by Dunluvly aswell in his home studio. He released his Debut EP in 2018, and became active in the pub circuit. In 2019 Dunluvly became a three piece band, and they played a headline show, released three singles, and gigged around Dublin until Corona season.

‘Too Late’ is an unfolding, intricately crafted indie gem which displays the unique, deft and mesmerising musicianship of Dunluvly. The nimble plucked guitar weaves and wanders through a flickering dance infused beat creating sublime ripples through the tracks delicate suspenseful atmosphere. The guitar flourishments pierce the darker tone of the track with glimmers of warmth and scintillation. Dunluvly creates fluctuating tension throughout the track while the tight harmonies haunt through the songs cold tone. The sheer attention to detail and lush sonic elements within the track showcase how compelling and masterful Dunluvly is as a songwriter and producer.

About the Song, Dunluvly said: “This track is one that I’ve always gone back to when I’m travelling or roadtripping. I wrote the first half of the song in Vancouver a few years ago, and finished it this past summer. To me, it captures the feeling of this summer, and was a soundtrack to escaping Dublin to go camping for weeks on and off. The song was written in between those trips. It has that nostalgic, roadtrip sound, and is about that feeling of excitement leading up to a journey.”

Disappear’ is the first original solo track released by Paradox frontman Pete Mac in over 10 years since the release of his first solo album ‘In Limbo’ in 2009.Recorded at Wavefield Recording Studios in West Cork ‘Disappear’ takes a different direction to the usual harder sound of Paradox featuring Brian Casey on grand piano and keys and Peter O’Sullivan on drums. The track was written during the lockdown period with Pete experimenting with different sounds. Pete has also been kept busy in 2020 recording some of his favorite cover versions at his home studio and releasing them on Spotify aswell as collaborating with other musicians such as drummer Mick Cross from Bunnosionn via long distance recording on such tracks as REM ‘Man on the Moon’ and The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Disarm’.Pete Mac plans on recording and releasing more original music this year with the plan of releasing a full length album next year.

James Lonergan ‘Brendan Valeʼ

James Lonergan is set to release his debut single ‘Brendan Valeʼ tomorrow September 25th. James began playing guitar and writing music aged 9 when, amidst a recently admitted period of “unexplained, unwarrented childhood depression”, his father brought him home a battered old classical guitar. This awoke James into the current stream of conciousness he now exists in. Inspired by his father, who worked as a gigging musician in pubs around the county, James immediately began writing music – joining his first band aged 10. Throughout the years James has fronted a range of bands, as a vocalist, guitarist & keyboardist, most notably being the vocalist, guitarist & principal songwriter of the recently disbanded progressive band, Synk. Now self-producing his debut solo album, James is seen to be furthering the development of his own breed of contemporary alternative/ folk/electronic music.

‘Brendan Valeʼ is an immersive track which exudes ambient electronic soundscapes and the spellbinding songwriting of James Lonergan. Lonergan’s ability to weave wonderfully rich textures and tones through haunting sombre melodies and intricate progressive guitar flurries is mesmerising. The track seems to carry the listener into an otherworldly utopia of melancholy as Lonergan effortlessly draws the listener further into the songs rippling depths. With wispy electronics hovering over the soothing guitar and cushioning beat, Lonergan creates an eerie contrast to the song’s tranquilizing outer shell. A trotting rhythm embellishes the backdrop in a country hue while Lonergan’s vocals soothe and coo with tender and soft tones, however there is a tense and slightly asphyxiating undercurrent to the track which is displayed through the electronic pulses and brooding alternative rock elements. ‘Brendan Valeʼ is a richly crafted number with varied emotions presented through psychedelic flourishments, thought provoking lyrics and bubbling rhythms. Lonergan’s ability to create such emotive and expressive music is what makes him such a treasured talent.

Neil Armstrong ‘Nearly Life’ Below

Written against the backdrop of the CoronaVirus catastrophe, ‘Nearly Life’ is the latest album to come from Neil Armstrong. Teaming up with lyricist David Will Mitchell and the legendary Jose Maria Sagrista (Triana), the album was initially sparked in January of this year and finished within six months despite recording grinding to a halt mid-way through due to Spain’s lockdown measures. Scottish born multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Neil Armstrong has recently welcomed music back into his life. With two albums and a rock musical already to his name, he now lives in Spain with his family. ‘Nearly Life’ is the debut of Neil’s creative partnership with British lyricist David Will Mitchell.

‘Nearly Life’ is a thoughtful, emotive album as Neil Armstrong spreads his passionate heartwarming musicianship over moving pop rock tunes. Using his warm vocals Armstrong floods each track with tenderness while sharp country-esque guitar, pines and laments through subtle keys, harmonica moments and steady rhythmic flows. Through tracks like ‘Paradise Lost’, ‘Rhythm Of Destiny’ and ‘Rock Me Sweet’ Armstrong displays themes of descent and redemption; falling from grace, financial loss, physical falls, societal descents and environmental decline to name a few. Taking inspiration from poet W.B. Yeats, author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and from pivotal societal moments such as the Covid pandemic, the 9/11 tragedy and climate change, at its core the songs touch on thought provoking issues and display emotive moments through elegant arrangements. Each song brings a new aspect and blended genre to the album to delight listeners ears for example ‘Nearly Life’ is a theatrical piano led number filled with subtle jazz elements while ‘The Gambler’ smudges some steamy blues on top.

‘Nearly Life’ is a rich collection of tracks that create an easy listening experience while dealing with strong themes expressed through wonderful musicianship and sweet melodies.

‘Cucumber & Ice’ is a shimmering pop anthem that drifts on the fun, clean and dynamic songwriting of Rowlette. This track radiates sunny vibes through a warm guitar refrain, buoyant rhythmic drive and a vibrant bubbly melody. Rowlette’s soothing vocals ooze character and charm while the freeing catchy melody ensures the song will stay in your head for days. This upbeat track is an instant ray of sunshine as the twinkle on guitar saturates the verse in a luminous glow before leading the song into its blossoming earworm chorus. ‘Cucumber & Ice’ is that catchy pick me ready to put a smile on your face when you need it.

About the song’s creation Rowlette says “I was with Graham and Rob in the studio and we were writing a very serious/sad song when we decided to just switch it up. Graham started messing with a riff on guitar and I had the Cucumber and Ice idea in my notepad and we went from there.
