Freak Static ‘Lustless’ EP

One man alternative singer-songwriter Freak Static has released his debut EP ‘Lustless’. After an intensive two years of writing, recording and producing, this 3-track is just a preview of whats to come. After playing as part of a band in the past, Freak Static decided to experiment with a solo project. Taking inspiration from the rise of DIY artists such as Tame Impala, UMO and St Vincent, the EP is entirely self-written, self-recorded and self-produced. ‘Lustless’ was recorded throughout the night whilst juggling a full time job. As a multi-instrumentalist, Freak Static played every instrument used for each track and now aims to inspire other musicians and artists to use the technology available to achieve their dreams.
‘Lustless’ is a three track groovy psychedelic tinged braid mingled and merged with swirling bright electronics. ‘King Kong’ is our first shot of Freak Static’s funky twisted coagulated sound. Soaked in strut-like swagger and infectious beats this track bounces with jagged hops. Eccentric electronics bleep and bloop while the track flows in a reggae-like groove and cool persona. ‘Forget Her’ follows as a slower chic passionate track. Heavier drum beats with distortion on guitars add an aggressive vibe to the track. Its a shaggy spiky track smoothened off with a zesty sensual guitar solo. ‘Snooze’ is the final track on the EP beginning with a delicate twinkle and soft vocals that build and become more dynamic. It creeps in like the soundtrack to an eerie horror movie and then brightens becoming light and silky. This fuzz filled powerful track croons with sorrow filled tones that progress into vibrant peppy animation. Coated in distortion with a dub step feel it’s a mighty meaty finish to an exceptional EP.
Now that the EP is completed, Freak Static is embarking upon the process of figuring out how to take his act live whilst remaining authentic. So keep an eye out for his live shows they  are sure to be extraordinary.

Kev Minney ‘Just Another Day’

Northampton’s Kev Minney has released his new single ‘Just Another Day’. Late in 2015, funded by his fans, Minney travelled to New York, where he recorded his debut EP ‘All You Need’, with Kenny Siegal and Jesse Lauter at Old Soul Studios and now, working closely with Mercury-nominated producer Jag Jago, he has created an album which combines his superlative guitar playing and distinctive vocals with a modern electronic sensibility and orchestral serenity. Minney is about to release his much-anticipated second album and ‘Just Another Day’ is the first glimpse of this.

‘Just Another Day’ is a delicate melodic track laced in haunting eerie tones and spine tingling soundscapes. With swirling instrumentation wisping like a chilly breeze against a steady sticky beat and twinkling warm guitar, Minney creates a chilling ghostly experience. His vocals are emotional yet soft and gentle while the strings add a mysterious flicker of urgency and danger to the track. Soft lull on backing vocals soothe and coo with a calming effect. ‘Just Another Day’ is a sublime chilling ghostly track that is well crafted displaying Minney’s own unique style.

Get Inuit ‘All My Friends’

Get Inuit have released their new single ‘All My Friends’. The band’s previous release ‘Barbiturates’ which we featured on Indie Buddie revealed the large scope and diversity the band have available in their repertoire, as well as furthering their support from Radio 1, with the track getting regular play on MistaJam and Huw Stephens’ shows.

The new single ‘All My Friends’ is a strike of mighty vigorous pop that spits sharp dynamic energy from every note. Punchy drums and the piercing zesty sting on guitars cut deep while the sugar coated infectious pop melody soothes almost acting as a shield to hide behind whilst the lyrics lash out at loved ones and lament normality. This high powered track follows the ear worm dazzling prowess we know and love from Get Inuit however with lyrical gashes. These guys are a band to get excited about.

When asked about the track frontman Jamie Glass said:

“I wrote it as a sort of anti-enjoyment song to compete with all of the age orientated pop music I hear in mainstream music. I wanted to use lyrics that would alienate people that live inside their bubbles whilst constantly trying to rationalise all of the safe decisions they made to get to that point. Although the message is clear throughout song – I wanted to appear a little hypocritical and a little childish. I leaned towards using squeamish metaphors to make a mockery of the point I was making.”

The band are putting on a headline show at London’s Dingwalls this month, where they’ll be showcasing their blistering and energetic set on Thursday 25th May, following a sold out show at The Lexington at the start of the year.
