Lost Boys have released their new single, ‘Weak’. The Limerick/Cork based indie-pop band have been recording over multiple lockdowns from their homes. Over the last year Lost Boys have sold out two headline gigs, been featured twice on the New Music Friday UK Spotify Playlist, placed at No1 on the iTunes charts in Ireland for their single ‘Sunrise’ and the band reached 255,600 streams across streaming platforms. ‘Sunrise’ was also marked as RTE 2fm’s Song of the week.
‘Weak’ is Lost Boys most ambitious tune to date and marks an intriguing shift in their sound. The band venture into R&B territory with elements of hip hop drifting atop dazzling production and a chilled sonic wall of sound. Hints of indie glimmer through the tracks atmosphere which bounce off bubbling beats and elastic bass grooves while ethereal electronics creates space within the kinetic soundscape. Oozing smooth vocals this genre blending tune exudes Lost Boys laid back, cool persona while showcasing the bands strong musical growth.
Rising Irish artists Craig Cooney and Rowlette are spreading the festive spirit with their new track ‘December’. 2020 has been a big year for both artists. ‘December’ marks indie-pop artist Rowlette’s fourth release this year, with previous singles being added to Spotify editorial playlists (including Fresh Pop, Pop Right Now and New Music Friday), performing alongside Jack L, being RTE Culture Tune of the Day twice and packing out her first headline show. Craig Cooney has been pursuing music professionally for the past three years and has multiple headline shows under his belt. His fifth ever show was in the Olympia Theatre supporting Gavin James.
‘December’ is an earnest, catchy blend of hip hop and pop as Rowlette’s soulful vocals and Craig Cooney’s fluid raps merge to create an uplifting number. The track floats upon a delicate piano refrain while swirling electronics create a magical soundscape for the vocals to flourish within. Angelic pop sweetness is provided by Rowlette’s warm vocals and the wistful melody as Cooney’s hip hop and rap provides a raw, jagged quality to the track. Melodic and richly crafted ‘December’ is an impressive song from Rowlette and Craig Cooney.
Alternative Pop/Hip-Hop act Darce has returned with his new single ‘Vamos (Lofi-Dreams)’ which is the first single from Darce’s upcoming EP ‘Rural Wi-Fi’.The track is an all-West Cork affair with the song being produced and mixed by rising female artist Blakkheart and all revenue earned from the track will go to Irish Network Against Racism (INAR) (https://inar.ie/). The Bantry artist has been featured in numerous top publications with Spotify Editorial Playlists (New Music Friday UK), performances at festivals (K-Fest), support slots for the likes of Le Boom and industry showcase sets (Ireland Music Week, Music Cork) along with international TV appearances in both Brazil and The Netherlands, where he appeared alongside The Rubberbandits and David McWilliams of all people.
Floating in ethereal, clean soundscapes with hip-hop beats and fluid rhymes, ‘Vamos (Lofi-Dreams)’ takes Darce’s sound to a lofi airy dimension. With haunting backing vocals, sticky reverb beats and wispy synths the track has an intriguing spacious atmosphere while Darce’s sharp raps provide warmth and wit through the songs introspective lyrical content. Darce is becoming known for pushing boundaries and crafting his tunes in a unique and dynamic way and ‘Vamos (Lofi-Dreams)’ reinforces this. It’s a sleek and cool number exuding rich lyrical depth, subtle tones and compelling musicianship. I can not wait for his upcoming EP ‘Rural Wi-Fi’, if ‘Vamos (Lofi-Dreams)’ is anything to go by then, it’s going to be a doozy.
