Future Radio ‘Run Baby Run’

Future Radio have released their new single ‘Run Baby Run’. The track is the second release from Future Radio’s upcoming debut album, ’Freedom’ which is scheduled for release on 13 November 2020. ‘Freedom’ is a concept album that deals with the notion of emancipation from the unexceptional and encourages the passionate pursuit of purpose. The band plans to release accompanying music videos, or rather episodes, for each track on the album. Each track essentially becomes an episode and each episode forms part of Season 1: Freedom.

‘Run Baby Run’ is a catchy upbeat number doused in sinister undertones as Future Radio flesh out their cinematic alternative rock with refined musicianship and dynamic instrumentation. With shredding guitars, pounding drums and infectious chorus the track travels on an intense wall of sound while the lyrics explore the concept of running from a relationship that’s stuck in a comfort zone. The driving bass line runs rampant through the track providing a gritty foundation while the epic guitar moments and dramatic crescendo make this track quite the power anthem. With smooth vocals and an infectious ear worm melody, ‘Run Baby Run’ is a solid new single from Future Radio.

About the track frontman Johnny Future said : “Metaphorically the song plays with the idea of the escape from Sodom and Gomorrah, a rather do-or-die situation. I generally don’t like comfort zones and try my best to avoid them,I clearly remember thinking to myself, when conceptualising Future Radio, that it can’t be just another rock band. Since then the idea has evolved quite dramatically, Future Radio redesigns storytelling through a mixture of word, music and visuals. Future Radio is not a band, it’s a concept, it’s a movement, it’s art. We like to call it Future Rock.”

Bullet Girl ‘Concrete Bed’

Dublin four piece Bullet Girl have released their new single ‘Concrete Bed’.Bullet Girl are guitarist Dylan Keenan, singer Aaron Doyle, bassist Tony Keyes and drummer Noel Dempsey. Their recent shows, including a standout set at TiLT in the Button Factory for 98fm’s Totally Irish, have elevated their standing in the Dublin live scene and earned them an invitation from Aiken Promotions to support hotly tipped The Mystrines of Liverpool for their performance at Eastbound Dublin.

‘Concrete Bed’ is a thrilling taste of the raw post punk Bullet Girl do so well. With scraping sharp guitars shrilling over an abrasive bass the band create an intoxicating wall of sound which accelerates from ominous tension to frantic chaos. This fantastic build and progression is why Bullet Girl’s musical prowess is mesmerising. They mix coarse piercing soundscapes with lighter guitar shrills and ferment this concoction until it’s simmering with unadulterated red hot fury. The pounding drums bash the tracks foundation with bloodthirsty mania while the frantic vocals scream and shout over the explosive anarchy. It’s anger, aggression and disdain all set to exhilarating musicianship, to create a mosh worthy onslaught for the listener to indulge in. Lyrically the track paints a vivid image of drug culture, homelessness and modern despair in Dublin City and the band reinforce this with dizzying soundscapes and the honest, bruising yet beautiful sound that is Bullet Girl.

About the track the band says: “Musically we wanted to create a spiralling soundscape to emphasise this endless cycle. We purposely wanted to write a song that went out of its way to strip away the romanticism of Dublin. As a city, Dublin and Dubliners have a lot to celebrate but while sleeping bags lay parked outside government buildings, it’s hard for us not to feel anger for the current state of our city. We don’t pretend to offer the solution to these issues, we only want to shine a light on it by presenting it in the most unfiltered manner possible.”

TV People ‘Nothing More’

Rising Dublin quartet TV People have released their third single of 2020, ‘Nothing More’ and its accompanying video directed by Robert Clarke. Mixed and recorded at Darklands Audio with Dan Doherty (Fontaines D.C., Vulpynes) and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Christian Wright (Radiohead, Blur, LCD Soundsystem), ‘Nothing More’ sees the band come to terms with identity and the struggle of finding a purpose in life.Hailing from the heart of Ireland’s capital, TV People are a Dublin four-piece who lace their indie/garage rock sound with punk-infused undertones.

Doused in moody tones of garage rock ‘Nothing More’ sees TV People take a more delicate approach to their sound. Structured and driven by a rooted bass rumble, the tracks underbelly is dark and sinister as the deep almost nonchalant vocals mirror the immersive melancholy of the bass. However the sweet lament on guitar is the light in the darkness – radiating a pure ray of hope as it chimes and twinkles through the depressive soundscape. The band’s attention to detail has always been a compelling aspect of their sound and again they do not disappoint; TV People’s slow paced and deliberate approach to this track stops time. The steady beat ties all the airy, raw and emotive components together within a loose veneer of indie rock allowing the bass and guitar to flourish underneath as the track builds gradually becoming more dramatic and intense before settling on a beautiful guitar refrain for the outro. Displaying lyrical depth, maturity and deft musicianship ‘Nothing More’ marks a significant moment in TV People’s sound and strong musical growth.

Speaking about the single, the band explain: “It reflects on the superficial challenges of finding yourself that you face in adolescence and early adulthood, and contrasts these with a deeper existential anxiety that emerges in their place as you begin to overcome them. The song documents the experience of trying to make peace with the realisation that life may be inherently meaningless and deal with the burden of being responsible for your own life’s purpose. It was written remotely during the lockdown period by sending each other music and mixing a home demo which was a new way of writing for us.”

POLAR STATES ‘Sellotape The Skies’

Liverpool’s POLAR STATES have released their new single ‘Sellotape The Skies’. This is the bands second single recorded remotely during lockdown, working from their bedrooms, following, ‘2020’ which was championed by Huw Stephens and featured on Spotify’s Hot New Bands and Fresh Finds (Global). Since their formation the band have had strong support from Radio 1 including a feature on the best of BBC introducing playlist, entered Spotify’s Viral 50 Chart, and have played a number of major UK festivals, supporting Wolf Alice, The Japanese House, and Clean Cut Kid.

‘Sellotape The Skies’ is ethereal, anthemic and surging with gripping indie vibes. With raw biting guitars rushing through an intense sonic build the track erupts with kinetic adrenaline and invigorating indie rock. The soaring guitars flourish and ricochet off the buoyant punchy drums while the rooted bass lines create that hip coaxing groove. These guys always pack oodles of passion and youthful energy into their tracks and they have out done themselves with this new release. Exuding a catchy uplifting melody and smooth emotive vocals ‘Sellotape The Skies’ has that blood rushing state of suspense that is sure to spark something within the listener. The band build tension superbly through the verses before the powerful anthemic chorus bursts with jubilation of epic proportions. Robust and packing a hefty punch ‘Sellotape The Skies’ is a joy to listen too.

On the song and the experience of recording remotely, vocalist Paul Tong commented: “When I was a kid, I used to think Sellotape could fix anything. It even held my BMX together at one point, till someone stole it. I guess when you don’t really understand a problem, you think it can be fixed so easily. ‘Sellotape The Skies’ is like my way of going back to that simplicity.I wrote it at 3am in my bedroom in a bit of a hazy state. I woke up the next day and was like, ‘where did that song come from?’ It didn’t have a chorus for a while, and was more just like a big poem. It sat around unfinished for months, but we went back to it during lockdown and recorded remotely from our bedrooms. It’s weird releasing a song that we’ve never actually played together from start to finish. The lads were like, ‘we’re gonna get sued for this title’, but then we figured The Kinks sung about Coca Cola and they got away with it. “

Bitch Falcon ‘Test Trip’

Bitch Falcon have recently released their new single ‘Test Trip’ taken from their forthcoming debut LP, ‘Staring At Clocks’, to be released 6th November via Small Pond Records (Clt Drp, Wild Cat Strike).BITCH FALCON was formed by frontwoman Lizzie Fitzpatrick in Dublin in 2014, and are mainstays of the festival circuit in both Ireland and abroad (packing out rooms in the US, Canada and Europe). Since these freshman days, the lineup has galvanised around the rhythm section of Barry O’Sullivan on Bass and Nigel Kenny on Drums. The trio has played shows with Girl Band, Fontaines DC, Torche, Black Peaks and Pussy Riot.

Once again Bitch Falcon deliver another slice of grunge perfection with latest release ‘Test Trip’. A relentless bass rumbles through eerie soundscapes for the verses while drums tease and foreshadow the chaos to come. The track oozes spine-tingling instrumentation, tension and dark atmospherics as the trio push and pull the verses into the heavy chorus with majestic and masterful musical flair. The band place droplets of dreamy tones through the track which gives brief moments of release between the striking guitars while the harsh riffs and pummeling drums provide a thunderous backdrop for Lizzie Fitzpatrick’s powerful vocals (which is the all commanding constant within the bands songs.) Her range is bewitching as she controls her icy lulls and mighty wails with dignified dominance while the crazed guitar fuzz, shattering bass and dead summoning drums explode into a frenzy behind her. Her cool, calm approach has a sense of passionate nonchalance which she unleashes without warning, making each track the band release an energetic shock to the system. Bitch Falcon’s sound is absolutely thrilling and first class. These guys are in a league of their own.

About the track frontwoman Lizzie Fitzpatrick said : “I wrote this about running away from home. When I was young I would always pack my bags in a bid to manipulate my mother into forgiving me for something I did (too stubborn to just apologize). I linked this with manipulation in love. When the partner ‘tests’ each other by trying to leave when they just want to be fought for. Really it’s a take on myself, rather than dealing with the situation, just packing your bags and running away (which is not the answer).”
