Somebody’s Child, Le Boom

Bio : Somebody’s Child have shared Le Boom’s remix of “We Could Start A War” which is an exciting addition to the recent catalogue of songs released on the indie rock bands’ debut EP 20-Something. Le Boom duo (Aimie and Christy) are warming up with a string of remixes between now and the end of 2020. This highly anticipated remix is their first release in over a year as they have been working on new material.

Why We Like It: Le Boom meticulously blend their lush melodic pop and tropical elements into the track creating a rich new aspect within the song. Originally the song broods and laments through dark soundscapes however Le Boom’s influence paints the dynamic soundscapes in a light breezy indie-house tone while highlighting the moving lyrics and Cian’s passionate vocals. The buoyant groove and summer electronics weave into the songs moodier elements delicately enhancing and highlighting the masterful elements of this compelling track.

Why We Like It: Reddy’s distinctive warm vocals coo the honest lyrics in this jaunty infectious track which exudes glorious guitar riffs, buoyant rhythms and a pop smudged melody. The track has an icy dream-like nonchalant tone to it. However the steady guitar strums maintain the vibrant indie sound which contradict the lyrics (which navigate through break-ups in the age of social media) while a smooth lush chorus surges with sweet vibes and retro hues. It’s an infectious number brimming with rich musicianship and clean production.

Bio : PAULI is a brand new Irish artist. Inspired by lockdown the Cork born, Galway raised and now Dublin based musician took his song writing to the bedroom where he wrote and produced a three track EP delving into everything from self isolation, to binge drinking as well as dreams of love and loss. Lead single ‘Cocoon’ got video treatment from award winning animation director Marc Corrigan who has worked with Irish and international acts including Hamsandwich, The Academic, I’m From Barcelona, The Futureheads, and Dan The Automator. The video tells the simple story of self-isolation and life while cocooning, hopeful that we will emerge from it all the better for it.

Why We Like It: It’s a heartwarming catchy track brimming with passionate musicianship and emotive songwriting. With sharp guitar refrains, steady beat and twinkling elements teamed with echo backing vocals and a blazing indie rock chorus this infectious hearty track hits you right in the chest. Bio : Nashville-based band, Nightly, have released their single, ‘summer’, with the band’s debut album, ‘Night, Love You’, set for release on October 16th via BMG Recordings. The album, comprised of 14 tracks mostly written during quarantine, will also feature tracks like ‘The Movies’ and ‘Not Like You’ as well as the break-up anthem, ‘You Should Probably Just Hang Up’.Nightly was originally formed by cousins, Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta, and drummer Nick Sainato. In 2010, they released their first EP, Honest, and their song “XO” earned over 10 million streams.

The swirling synths create a chilled ethereal atmosphere while the bubbling and well blended elements of synth pop and indie rock create quite the consuming listening experience. Bio : Liverpool indie rock band Circa Waves have released a new single ‘Lemonade’ with Alfie Templeman.The song comes after the band released their latest album Sad Happy in March.

Why We Like It: It’s a light indie delight as the band drizzle zesty guitar lines over a buoyant beat and warm bass groove to create a hazy summers day ditty. Kieran Shuddall and Alfie Templeman’s vocals blend smoothly as the laid back track strolls with an effortless charm and infectious melody. The vocals have a nonchalant tone as the band sing “and we’re all drinking lemonade, we thought we’d be doing something great by now”. The track builds into a charming infectious number with choir backing vocals singing lush harmonies. Bio : Strangers With Guns are a 3 piece metal band based in Dublin. Although they formed in January 2019, they already have toured all over Ireland and have supported acts as diverse as “Cherym” and “The Soap Girls” to playing on punk bills up North and even playing with stoner and doom metal bands in Limerick and Cork.

Why We Like It: Shrouded in epic production and almost anthemic energy ‘WE ARE CHAOS’ marks a new era for Manson. The melancholic melody chimes through a jogging rhythm and guitar strum as the track twinkles into fruition. While Manson’s deep gravelled vocals provide the grit to this more pop rock anthem it’s bravado and power lies within the tracks chorus which erupts to the sound of crashing guitars and pounding drums. This gusto-infused soundscape fills the track with darkly hued sorrow and acceptance all at once. It’s well layered with innocent keys, echo-backing vocals and a massive climactic build however the lamenting undertone is a chilling element which is difficult for the listener to shake, providing depth within this brighter new track.

He started writing under the name Paperflowers. recently after starting his BA Hons’ study at Leeds College of Music. Paperflower. has recently released a two track collection ‘I’ll Be Alright / Let Go.’

Why We Like It: It’s a clean pop number doused in exhilarating soundscapes and sublime production. With twinkling guitar zealously slicing through an eruption on electronics the track has a hyper fun chorus while the verses cool the tone with ethereal moments brooding between sweet melodies and soft vocals. The track has a dreamy atmosphere with soft graceful melodies exuding majestic indie between the steady beat and lush intricacies. ‘I’ll Be Alright’ is a beautiful and comforting piece of bedroom pop from Paperflowers.

About the track Charlie PJ Phillips said : “My latest release titled ‘I’ll Be Alright / Let Go.’ Stems from an event in my life that occurred recently and explores the feelings of losing someone very close,to move on from this I wrote the two songs almost like an explanation to myself. Bio : James Jack is a 19 year old musician from Callington, Cornwall, who has been playing guitar for over ten years. Previously he has been the frontman to the Plymouth based band “Echo Chamber” where he has played at festivals such as Boardmasters and Port Eliot festival, as well as playing in front of the likes of Michael Eavis with “The Little Mammoths” at Pilton’s NYE party.He is now working on writing and recording songs for his debut EP, which is planned to come out later this year. Demo tapes from this project, such as “Crush” have been played on local BBC radio. Other works of his, such as “I Should Be In London”, won him The Old Bakery’s Live Lounge Competition recently.

Brendan Murray

Genre : Electronic pop

Bio : 23 year old Galway native Brendan Murray is no stranger to the music industry, having been a part of boy band ‘HomeTown’ managed by Louis Walsh, “HomeTown” achieved three chart hits in Ireland, including the number one singles “Where I Belong” in 2014, and “Cry for Help” in 2015. Their debut album, HomeTown, was released in November 2015 and peaked at number four in Ireland. Brendan then went on to represent Ireland at the Eurovision and was one of the finalists in X Factor 2018, mentored by One Direction star Louis Tomlinson. He secured a spot in the semi-final of the series, finishing in 5th place

Crystal Tides blend their indie rock with power pop choruses and infectious melodies to create a blazing indie gem bursting from the seams with summer vibes and good times. With smooth vocals, body thumping rhythm and shredding guitar refrains, ‘Monday’ is a hyper blood rushing tune that will have you dancing around the room in no time. Love it.

About the track the band said: “Monday’ is about the turning point in life where the band is starting to realise we are not as young as we used to be. We can’t keep going out like we used to but there’s an internal battle you have of ‘am I told old for this?’ or ‘You only live once, why not?!’.Ultimately it’s about pushing aside the responsibilities of real life and having fun.”

A soft twinkling on guitars and elegant piano provides the light first half of the track which leads into the clouded darker tone of the crescendo. This track flows with an effortless feathery lightness allowing the tender vocals to sparkle.The song darkens as it progresses, becoming more ominous. It feels like Galligan actually removed the sun from your day with a dark cold rain cloud. The warm horns, lamenting strings and rich production is impressive and marks Galligan as an artist to keep and eye on. His ability to create such rich and expressive music is masterful and sure to give you goosebumps.

Bio : Twin Stranger is a Welsh 5 piece power-pop project led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Alex McConnachie. Initially a bedroom recording project, McConnachie enlisted his multi-instrumentalist brother Liam as well as friends, bassist Josh Newington, Joe Tobin on keyboards and drummer Eric Karvik. Following their successful debut single ‘Tears of Joy’ which was released in February 2020, Twin Stranger have released follow up single ‘Crushed’, after being tipped by BBC Introducing and SiriusXM in the US.

Why We Like It: A sweet melody drips onto a bubbling indie backdrop. Garage-infused guitar mingles with rich instrumentation as a 90’s vibe wafts through the track while smooth vocals coo cynical lyrics over the dreamy melody. With a tightly weaved fuzzy bass and rich percussion Twin Stranger have created a well layered luminous gem. The hazy guitar riff and radiant licks slice through the buoyant soundscape as the track meanders between sweet daydream pop and moody grunge effortlessly. ‘Crushed’ is vibrant, catchy and luscious on the ears. 

Speaking of the track Alex McConnachie says: “Crushed is about realising that some people you know just love listening to the sound of their own voice and other people’s troubles and feelings and life troubles only really enter their mind for a split second, then they’re gone again. On a more positive note it’s also about summer time when you’re a teenager, the days blend into one and you’re just hanging out with your friends without a care in the world, just living in the moment.”

Luke Lang’s strong, rasped vocals exude emotion as the track broods for the verses and explodes in true rock manner for the hair-raising chorus. The band builds intensity within the track through the use of thrilling dark synths. With guitars venturing between light twinkles and crashing raw lacerations Skyfever layer on oodles of dynamic instrumentation, slowly, creating a wonderful, rich tease of the powerful alternative rock Skyfever do so well.

Bio : Twenty Twenty are an indie band based in Liverpool, UK. The lineup consists of drummer Ethan Furey, vocalist and guitarist Patrick Joseph and keys player Niamh Mailer. The trio set out to create a very dense warm and direct sound, tipping the hat off to genres as diverse as alternative rock, indie, dreampop, psycedelic rock and managing to sound like a reverb pedal on LSD.

Why We Like It: With a catchy rooted guitar hook weaving through a punchy drum foundation this song shows Twenty Twenty’s ability to meticulously layer and refine their tracks. The band blend alternative rock with smooth indie melodies while groove-infected prismatic keys create a psychedelic wobble throughout the track. With a vibrant chorus eruption, sparkling soundscapes entwined between raw guitar and ominous glimmers on keys the track has an instant rich texture and appeal. ‘Lies’ is an atmospheric number with a catchy refrain that won’t leave your head anytime soon.

Bio : Fossway are an Alt-Rock / Post-Punk trio from Newcastle, known for fusing intricate musicianship with socially-conscious lyrics inspired by societal observations and the constantly-changing political landscape.

Track: Grey Cloud

Why We Like It: There are wonderful intricacies within this track that weave beneath the tracks alternative rock surface to create a sophisticated mature number. A rooted bass wiggles through the songs foundation creating a dark underbelly while the thrashing drums slap and roll throughout causing fluctuations in the rhythm. The melancholic vocals hold a sweet soft tone reminiscent of early Paul McCartney as the dreamy melody drifts with a delicate innocence through the dynamic instrumentation.With majestic moments on guitars colliding with gritty raw riffs Fossway create sublime textures and contrasts through the song. The band have layered this track superbly creating wonderful dramatic highs with heavy mosh worthy soundscapes and soft tender twinkles all within a vigorous and refined wall of sound. It’s impressively hypnotic and utterly infectious.

Why We Like It: It’s a passionate indie banger. Swarmed in exuberant youthful musicianship the band submerge a sweet catchy melody into an effervescent pool of dynamic instrumentation. The track is robust and well built with a driving bass line that weaves between soaring lush guitar lines and punchy drum progressions. This band find a wonderful balance between vigorous blasting alternative rock with a raw pounding wall of sound and sweet majestic indie brimming with heartfelt emotion. The meandering between light ethereal guitars and crashing riffs is superb as Vansleep flourish and embellish their track with skill and maturity. With emotive vocals that soar over the kinetic backdrop, rich rhythm and smooth melody, ‘Acid Weather’ is quite the charming and earnest ditty. One of my favourite finds.

With jagged guitar slicking through pounding drums this energetic track runs at a hyper pace with adrenaline pumping from every note. There are laid back 90’s rock moments mangled between frenetic punk whacks and soaring indie as Shape Pitaki create an invigorating number brimming with sublime musicianship and oodles of energy.

Bio : Since early 2019, Laissez Faire have been taking the Bristol music scene by storm with successful single launch shows at The Mother’s Ruin and Rough Trade along with a stand out performance from Dot to Dot Festival 2019. They have also supported the likes of Indoor Pets, Sheafs and Gender Roles along with being shortlisted for Truck Festival and Y Not Festival.

Why We Like It: Consumed in blazing indie swagger ‘Chloe’ is instantly likeable and infectious. With an eargasmic melody spread over ebullient drums and relentless guitars the track is an instant shot of adrenaline. The majestic guitars soar, sting and sweetly lament through the crashing wall of sound while the rampant bass lays down an effortless cool nonchalance. The band do a fantastic job of blending hyper joyous indie with a delicious smackeroo of pop on top. Laissez Faire provides rich, tasty and invigorating musicianship and ‘Chloe’ is a sublime example of this.

Bio : Driven by Italian brothers Matteo and Marco, on guitar and drums respectively, and completed by Liverpool artist Jasmin Nash, Violetear melds together elements of 60’s pop, 70’s progressive rock, and modern indie, with some jazz and psychedelia thrown in for good measure.The band have released their new single ‘Head Over Heels’.While technically 2 tracks, the single is meant to be considered as 1.

Why We Like It: This slinky groovy gem drifts sweetly on a candied melody and lush soundscape as Violetear splurge warm jazz elements over shimmying 60’s pop. Bio : Plastic Cowboys are a three piece indie punk band made up by members, Ciaran McGann (vocals, guitar), Joe Monaghan (drums) and Darren McCarthy (Bass).‘Not as Cool live at Station Studios’ is the second video of the bands ‘Live in Station Studios’ performances. This live track was recorded at Station Studios, produced by Kevin Brennan, and the video was shot by George Hooker.

Bio : Former Future Kings of Spain members guitarist Karl Hussey and drummer Bryan McMahon join ex-Bambi bassist Dan Barry to bring you Badself. Finally finding time in ‘Lockdown’, Badself released ‘Stay Down’, the opening track and first single from the band’s debut album ‘The Three Daughters of Mara’ which was recorded with producer Ronan McHugh (Def Leppard).

Why We Like It: With a demon summoning dirty bass rumbling through the tracks underbelly Badself present a lean mean rock track set to revolve in your head for days. The track slithers its way into your head as bright guitars glisten with a swagger dipped slinky texture while the pounding drums maintain a solid raw foundation.This track is a powerful beast laced in sensual dark bluesy tones as its acute wallop of rock drives the songs backbone. With powerful vocals and no nonsense attitude ‘Stay Down’ is an old school sweat and leather rock anthem.
