Jooce ‘Lazarus/Disarray’

Dublin based psychedelic rock band Jooce have released their new double A side release ‘Lazarus/Disarray’. ‘Lazarus’ and ‘Disarray’ take Jooce’s blissful psychedelic rock down two different trippy avenues.

‘Lazarus’ cruises along with vibrant swirling soundscapes while hazy guitars weave a warm toned golden thread through this ethereal track.It’s prismatic layers create an enthralling lustrous listening experience as the track wanders off into a glorious and hypnotic instrumental piece. The raspy vocals coo and dynamically call out the anthemic chorus and punchy verse as a buoyant rhythm bounces through the swirling lush soundscapes.

‘Disarray’ mellows the tone as it ventures down a delicate ballad side to Jooce. Soft guitar strums between emotional and fairy-like light soundscapes. It’s a sweet reverb laced dreamy number that builds as it progresses. The guitars jangle with a zesty biting sting through the chilling atmosphere and sway-like melody. They weave the psychedelic tones through this track sublimely while sprinkling a dash of pop over the melody.

Moving and deeply enthralling Jooce showcase their fine musicianship and exquisite melodies through both these mesmerising tracks.They are instantly addictive.

Sun Mahshene’s ‘Come Alive (Leave This City)’ single launch at The Grand Social Dublin with support from The Thrash Blues

Nestled in the heart of a rainy Dublin city The Grand Social Dublin host psychedelic band Sun Mahshene’s ‘Come Alive (Leave This City)’ single launch. A projected mirage of kaleidoscopic colours, swirls and patterns decorated the stage wall creating a prismatic dreamy atmosphere as we eagerly waited for the nights music to begin.

Rock n’ roll duo The Thrash Blues cooly take to the stage to ignite the night with their burly grooves and slick riffs. Not one’s for banter they whack into each track with surety and vigor loosening up the crowd’s hips with their swagger steeped richly developed tunes. Liz and Ro have finely chiseled their sound for maximum impact. The beefy riffs, slick guitar licks and melodic purrs weave their way suavely through the punchy drums superbly to create a thrilling contrast. Their raw yet refined sound is perfect to dance to. The Black Keys – esque ‘Wicked Man’ blasts out the energised and playful loose musicianship of this band with an edgy punk whack that hits you in the mouth half way through. There are lush guitar twangs, riveting drum rumbles and warm smooth vocals throughout the set filling each track with its own unique and vibrant character. For bluesy tinged, punk slapped rock n’ roll The Thrash Blues are the ones to call.

Poised on stage amidst the purple hued smoke of dry ice, Sun Mahshene stand ready to melt our mind with their glorious psychedelic drenched tunes. The dim lighting causes their silhouettes to haunt through the smoke providing a spooky, eerie atmosphere.Their set is brimming with malleable elastic soundscapes weaving their way through sharp slinky guitars, elastic bass grooves and chiming keys as Nathan Henderson coos and warmly caresses the euphoric melodies with his velvety vocals. The distorted whines introduce opening track  ‘Making The Call’ as the band peer through the shadowing mist. These guys bend their shredding raw rock and delightful sweet psychedelia seamlessly making for a gritty and diverse listening experience. Sun Mahshene are musical guru’s who leave a trail of sugary sprinkles throughout their tracks which lead you down a delicious rabbit hole craving for more. ‘The World Will Grind You Down’ and ‘This Girl I Know’ are mesmerising live as the band entwine each track in glorious layers adding rich depth to each component. There are three guitarist on stage Ryan Daffy, Ian McGinn and vocalist Henderson – this brings a new dimension and thrilling intensity to each track. These guys are also fun to watch on stage bassist Darren Hughes dances, executes all the suave guitar poses and hair flicks known to man while hopping, bopping and wiggling along to the tunes – he only stops to place a can to his brow to cool himself down while Dave Murray’s proficient drumming is a joy to watch and listen to. Backing vocals and percussion were provided by Ray Burke while Rob Crosbie took to the keys to help flesh out and adequately translate Sun Mahshene’s stunning sound.

‘The Righteous One’ is one beautiful 60’s – esque gem. Distortion on guitars fizz and bubble over a dreamy vocal and euphoric melody while punchy drums and enchanting soundscape create a dizzying sweet wall of sound to encapsulate your mind, soothing, sedating and enlightening you all at once. It’s pretty magnificent. I forgot where I was for a brief moment – the tracks are so luscious and consuming. The new single ‘Come Alive (Leave This City)’ was equally as gripping. Its anthemic chorus had members of the crowd jumping and throwing their arms in the air while that defiant beat thumped through our chests invading and controlling every bounce and bop. There was no lag or cavity in their set. Every track was engaging and blissful on the ears. These guys are growing and flourishing beautifully and with a sound that leaves you thirsty to hear more their live show is the perfect medium to guzzle up their dazzling sound and refreshing tunes.

The band closed their set with the effervescent ‘When The Bomb Drops’. However the crowd refused to allow that be the end, they demanded the band return for an encore. As they shouted for “No Control”  Henderson shrugs and timidly obliges “Right we’ll do it”. ‘No Control’ takes the roll of the final track in its stride. Sulky and brooding it swarms in with dark tones, shrilling guitars, reverb vocals and a magnificent wall of sound that rushes adrenaline and fiery intensity into your veins. This exhilarating track was the perfect closing tune.

Crome Yellow ‘Tastes Much Better With You’

Waterford band Crome Yellow have released their new single ‘Tastes Much Better With You’ the fourth single from their upcoming debut album ‘See Why’. This slinky, smooth number drifts blissfully into your ears stopping time in a sugar coated dreamy dimension created entirely by Crome Yellow’s prowess. There is immense depth in this track as the band allows every pulse, flicker and swoosh take its place elegantly. The pop melody melts upon soft pearly electronics, warm guitar jingles and a soothing vocal delivery to create the perfect chilled number. It’s one tranquilizing time capsule as the band present a track with sweet hallucinatory swirls, zesty guitar solo’ s and a clean production.With gentle whines hitting the lush backdrop with an alien – esque tonality this wobbly and floaty dream has everything to transport you to a sedating state of bliss. The edged guitars fill the track with a classic rock anthemic vibe showcasing Crome Yellow’s brilliantly refined musicianship.

Munky ‘You’ve Got Male’

Dublin’s Munky have returned with their new single ‘You’ve Got Male’. The band who spent 2018 touring Ireland and the UK present another effervescent psych-punk track that is sure to have you frothing from the mouth as you dance along while convulsions take over your body. On this latest effort the band lacerate the track with fizzing acid saturated guitar-lines dipped in wobbly dizzying psych while an infectious bass weaves an elastic foundation for the pulverising drums to batter off. It’s groovy, manic and bitterly harsh all while a catchy melody glissades through Zac Stephenson’s reverb laced, expressive vocals sweetening the biting delivery. With slinky guitar lines dripping swagger into each lick, stroke and solo this savage thrilling number is saturated in Munky’s kinetic boisterous and cheeky brand of dance-tinged, razor sharp delight with all the energy and raucous adrenaline their live shows explode with. These guys write catchy tracks that display their fine musicianship and proficient instrumental display. Munky sear their sound deep into your head leaving you branded… theirs.

Our Worth A Listen Track This Week Comes From Sun Mahshene

Dublin’s “Psychgazers”, Sun Mahshene, are set to release their fizzing new single  ‘Come Alive (Leave This City)’ tomorrow the 11th January. This is the second single to be taken from their forthcoming debut album ‘Contradictions and Tales of Fiction’. It was recorded at Darklands Audio, Dublin and co-produced with Daniel Doherty.

‘Come Alive (Leave This City)’ coolly whacks out that shivering dark and wild side to Sun Mahshene’s psychedelic shoegaze. These guys have never been shy at throwing everything they have into their tracks and this new single is no different. Brimming from the start with shrilling guitars blistering through a hyper drum pound, charging bass and scalding raw electronics, this lean mean psych spun number is saturated in mind frazzling soundscapes and adrenaline inducing energy. The catchy melody drips nectar coated bliss onto the effervescent backdrop as Nathan Henderson’s deep vocals rumble the verses through the snappy drum whack and flexible bass blitz. Filled with ominous spine chilling distortion, pristine production and breathtaking musicianship- this is another killer track from Sun Mahshene.

Vernon Jane ‘Push Me’

Dublin’s Vernon Jane have returned with their feverish video for the new single ‘Push Me’ which is the final single from their 2018 EP ‘The Dark Place’. Developing on their all consuming sound Vernon Jane slither and brood into the depths of this spine chilling number. Its intense as the track sneaks in to start, teasing and crawling before plunging into the mighty chorus and explosive crescendo. The guitars weave, lurk and scrabble through the slinky rhythm and dizzying distortion. Warm horns mellow out the background sublimely contrasting Emily Jane’s screaming vocals. These guys masterfully create the suspenseful atmosphere as they walk the tightrope before pummeling right into the mind blowing havoc Vernon Jane do so well. Its controlled anarchy portrayed in the most tightly crafted and admirable manner possible.Precise bass groves weave the sultry path through the steamy guitars while jazzy hues and psychedelic turbulence are subtly blended into the brew making for one gigantic expressive number that drags you kicking and screaming through a hosts of emotions.

Our Worth A Listen Track This Week Comes From GURU 

Emerging from the high-rent utopia of Brighton, indie newcomers GURU announce themselves with their irresistible take on punk in the form of debut single ‘Consumer Helpline’. The quartet comprised of Tommy Cherrill (vocals), Kieran Hunter (guitar), Ferg Belfrage (bass) and Simon ‘Danny Boy’ Daniels (drums) have already earned impressive support slots alongside Lady Bird, LIFE and Kagoule and have gained some early praise for their demos (BBC 6 Music).

‘Consumer Helpline’ is a razor sharp well executed slice of raucous punk. Its a swagger dripping fuzzy assault that goes down smooth with a sharp after-sting. Splintery guitars shred and lacerate through the rough rhythmic foundation and battering drum onslaught as the cool easy going vocals suave their way through the verses before stumbling and dramatically exclaiming over the chorus. The track whirlwinds its way into a frenzied thunderous crescendo. Their thrilling brand of psychedelic rock seeps with panache as they pulverize their powerful punk through every fibre of your being. It’s gritty, messy and coarse yet GURU slide in some really slick refined elements to create a wholly satisfying number that whooshes through with pungent adrenaline leaving you craving for more. Keep an eye out for these lads.

Tribal Dance ‘And Then All That Was Left Was A Physician And A Silhouette’ Video Premier

Dublin-based experimental/post-punk band Tribal Dance are set to release their video for ‘And Then All That Was Left Was A Physician And A Silhouette’ tomorrow December 5th. Tribal Dance consists of bassist and vocalist Adam Smyth, guitarist Stephen Dowling and percussionist Leo Clarke. Their debut single “Flongo” released in August 2017, sent out waves of excitement and received extremely positive reviews from music blogs and nationwide newspapers as well as national and international radio play, which contributed to a sold out single release show. The band have been showcased in Whelan’s Ones to Watch along with headlining a special Nialler9 showcase The Button Factory as well an unforgettable performance to a packed tent at KnockanStockan 2018.The band’s sophomore release ‘And Then All That Was Left Was A Physician And A Silhouette’ is set to be the first release on Bad Soup Records in December 2018, accompanied with an intense and dramatic music video, a limited edition physical release.

‘And Then All That Was Left Was A Physician And A Silhouette’ is Tribal Dance’s fierce way of dissolving your mind in their thick murky concoction of math punk with sweet little bubbles of psychedelic rock gasping beneath this suffocating brew. The tense atmosphere builds right from the start as these guys unfold each segment gently with eerie soundscapes twinkling through distorted guitars and punchy drum attacks. This acid saturated gem lures and entices with soft lulling vocals, sweet little guitar injections and a meaty rhythmic foundation. Just as the track seeps into its dreamiest delusional state Tribal Dance electrocute you back to life with a pulverising heavy finale. The fluctuation between Math mania and soothing psychedelia is masterful as Adam Smyth switches from animated screams to soft coos seamlessly while wobbly desert guitar whines between a deep groove and laid back melody. Well crafted this track consumes you entirely in the dizzying world of Tribal Dance and with musicianship this refined and messy all at once – these guys are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

The Misty ‘The Lovely Dead Girl at Table Six’

London based multi-instrumentalist ‘The Misty’ has released his new single ‘The Lovely Dead Girl at Table Six’.  The track was recorded in his own home, as well as enlisting the help of La Frette Studios in Paris, the same studio chosen by rock band Arctic Monkeys for their latest LP release. Alongside the single release The Misty produced a music video, with the help of China Town Studios, featuring a French model to help put together the visual.

‘The Lovely Dead Girl at Table Six’ is a fluctuating flutter of delight as The Misty croons over a dreamy melody while vaporous guitars whine and sting between ethereal soundscapes. Filled with a rich and intense depth this track grooves and sensually sways with psychedelic hues through a delicate melodic flow. The swirling bubble of electronics set the romantic tone as the brooding vocals and sultry guitar injections add a stirring quality and meaty grit. Perfectly crafted this luscious tantalizing track transports you to a soothing dreamy state that captivates with a 70’s psychedelic rock vibe softened by whirls of jazz flickering through a pop lush melody. It’s soft and aerial with a vibrant mouth watering backdrop to tease all the senses.

Lana Del Rey ‘Venice Bitch’

Following on from last week’s release of ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’, Lana Del Rey has now released another new track ‘Venice Bitch’. The track which is expected to appear on her next album, ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ premiered as World Record on Apple Music’s Beats 1 with Zane Lowe” yesterday and is available to stream and download now. Lana Del Rey is currently in the studio working with Jack Antonoff. A full-length record won’t be due for release until 2019 but Lana is excited to preview some early material from the sessions for fans.

‘Venice Bitch’ is a 10-minute span of dreamy floaty ballad -esque tones wrapped in a psychedelic prismatic  blanket. Del Rey drapes her sultry vocals over a tender first half of the track as subtle guitars twinkle about swoony strings while a sweet calming melody caresses your ears gently and delicately seeping into your mind. Del Rey’s vocals disarm and subdue with her honeyed tone lulling and cooing gracefully. This sublimely tranquilizing gem is easy on the ears as it subtly builds becoming a little more obscure with the psychedelic tones steering the track into a kaleidoscopic daze. Just as you are melting into its soothing moody hazy vibe the track slides into a falling hallucinogenic bottomless dream of weaving almost dizzying soundscapes and distorted lingering guitar fuzz while Del Rey laments above this woozy backdrop. It’s a gripping unique number from Lana Del Rey.
